Your Concern is Noted

Apparently there wasn't enough of The Clash on the downstairs thread for some people.

Funny thing to file under small world. Last night I was watching a bit of Green Day with the daughter. They are a fine band, and we enjoyed ourselves. But as it ended I slipped into teacher mode and put The Who and The Clash on iTunes and cranked it.

My daughter, aged 13, was immediately impressed with the music, especially The Clash tunes. She said that Green Day were the Clash in their good dreams, which made me laugh. My wife was listening in and said "Trey, show her what they looked like." Smart woman, I listened.

Watching my daughter's face fall as I showed her the photos of that skinny rag tag bunch was very instructive. Her face gradually fell into a bit of a sneer as she looked at me and pronouced them really ugly. I would have said scruffy and homely, but whatever. (I wonder what year it became necessary to be a babe to sell records?)

It taught me a few things. I agree with her about Green Day's good dreams (though Green Day is a fine band,) I do not have nearly enough Clash on my iPod (London Calling and the promo disc from a box set is just not enough,) and I had forgotten what putting on some great music and playing it loud does to reduce my stress level!

So today after I leave work I am going to put Sandinista and Combat Rock on the Tunes. And I am gonna play it loud while I do.

Trey

Good on Trey.

BTW, Has anyone seen this film yet?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800099/

It has not made it to Cleveland as yet and I'd love to see it or hear from someone who has.

All the power's in the hands
Of the people rich enough to buy it
While we walk the streets
Too chicken to even try it!
And everybody's doing
Just what they're told to
And nobody wants to go to jail!

Interesting thing about the film "Rude Boy" is how conservative it is. In this scene, or perhaps one in this sequence, the term "university-educated Marxist" is used with considerable contempt of the long-haired guy who pulls the plug on the concert. Elsewhere there's talk of the National Front and of whether the Clash's success undercuts their message.
